Welcome!
My name is Marc Pompl, and my passion lies in realistic oil painting. Since 2014, I have dedicated myself intensively to art, creating works that include landscapes, seascapes, starry skies, portraits, and figurative paintings. I am especially fascinated by lighting moods, atmosphere, and the quiet beauty of nature — moments that often seem fleeting yet become timeless through painting.
My journey into art began during a period of burnout. In a time of inner unrest, oil painting became a place of focus, calmness, and clarity for me. What initially started as a personal balance quickly evolved into a deep passion and eventually into the artistic path I follow today.
My first steps were shaped by the wet-on-wet technique of Bob Ross and workshops with a certified Bob Ross instructor. However, after a short time, I began to focus intensively on realistic landscape painting. This was followed by studies and workshops with international artists such as Kevin Hill, Alan Kingwell, Sonja Neumann, and Samuel Earp.
Since 2023, I have been a student at the Tisch.Academy by Andrew Tischler, whose focus lies in classical oil painting, composition, and realistic visual storytelling. Since 2024, Samuel Earp has also been mentoring me in my continuous artistic development.
My working process is based on classical layering techniques — from the initial underpainting to the finest glazes and details. In doing so, I draw inspiration from artists such as Johannes Vermeer, Peder Mørk Mønsted, Albert Bierstadt, Ivan Shishkin and Andrew Tischler.
In addition to exhibitions and open studio events in Dortmund, my works have been displayed in local restaurants and cafés over several years. In 2022, I participated in the Kunstmarkt Aplerbeck and Hombrucher Kulturfrühling. Since 2025, I have also been teaching my own painting classes with regularly returning students. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to support the book project „Wasser malen mit Ölfarbe“ of the artist Sonja Neumann as an advance reader.
Since 2024, I have been working as a freelance artist alongside my primary profession. Today, my paintings can be found in private collections as well as regional business spaces.
Nature is an endless source of inspiration for me. The sea, quiet forests, vast landscapes, and the depth of the universe with its nebulae and stars remind me how much beauty and tranquility are hidden within our world. This atmosphere is what I aim to capture in my paintings — not merely as a subject, but as a feeling.
